Qbby can make boxes to use as platforms or as a defence. Boxes are also often used to activate certain mechanisms. If players attempt to create boxes whilst some have been placed already, the existing boxes will disappear.

In each stage, Qbby has the ability to create a limited number of boxes. This varies per level, but is often 1 to 4.

Players can still complete the level without aquiring the crown. This feature is not present in BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL!, but is in the previous three games.
