The World Map appears in every mainline installment in the BOXBOY! series. It takes place in different locations depending on the game, but always serves as the games' level select menu, allowing the player to access the game's worlds, the shop, and other features that are not normally accessible during gameplay. In all World Maps, the Box Limit is locked at 3 (with the exception of the BOXBOXBOY! World Map, which is set to 2 sets of 3.)
BOXBOY!
In BOXBOY!, the World Map takes place on the Box Planet. It contains the doors to access the game's worlds, the shop, as well as the projector and two machines. The World Map is split into two maps that canonically are on different sides of the planet.
BOXBOXBOY!
BOXBOXBOY! contains two world maps, with a teleporter to switch between maps. The first World Map is unique in that it its layout is primarily vertical and not horizontal. The Map contains two floors - once enough Worlds have been cleared, an elevator to access the second floor becomes accessible. Upon completing World 11, a teleporter to access the second map becomes available and can be used anytime.
The second World Map in this game is a recreation of the second World Map in BOXBOY!, only the Box Planet is now green (following its restoration in BOXBOY!), and the map is intended to be accessed backwards.
BYE-BYE BOXBOY!
BYE-BYE BOXBOY! contains a total of six world maps - two in the Box Ship, and one for each of the four planets in the game. The Box Ship contains a usable steering wheel, allowing the player to access any of the three planets (as well as the fourth one once the previous three have been completed), though they can also be accessed using the Touch Screen. The player can also use the elevator to exit the Box Ship, landing on whatever planet the Box Ship is currently located on.
On the first three planets, the planets' ground will initially be colored black, in a manner similar to that of the first game's World Map, but upon completing each planet's final world, its respective machine will be activated by that world's Qbaby, restoring the ground and making it colorful (though this does not affect actual levels).
On the black smoke planet, the planet's ground remains black whether or not the planet has been completed, however two minor changes occur at certain points:
- If the player has entered [World 18 (BYE-BYE BOXBOY!)|World 18]] at least once, the mysterious blacked-out Qbaby located next to the World's door disappears. It is never seen again unless the player resets their save file by holding A+B+X+Y when starting the game.
- If the player has completed World 18, the planet's machine is occupied by the blacked-out Qbby, Qucy, and Qudy. Qucy's bow is absent, and the characters do not have any visible eyes.
