For many years following their removal from the Nintendo website in 2019, these comics did not resurface on the known internet for many years due to a failure to publicly archive them. In 2024, however, a few fans of the game provided their copies of these comics, and they can now be documented on the BOXBOY WIKI!. "Out of Proportion", however, has yet to be found. For this reason, the comic has been substituted with its Japanese version. Trivia
- The "No Surprise Here" comic is the only localized comic to be available both online and in-game.
- The comics are the only in-game material in which the characters speak.
- The above online comics were previously available for viewing on Play Nintendo and boxboy.nintendo.com/extras, but were eventually removed.
- BYE-BYE BOXBOY! contains two comics, “Qucy’s Secret” and “Qucy’s Secret 2”, which are exclusive to the Japanese version of the game. This is likely because their material could be perceived as offensive or insensitive in some regions, due to their punchlines involving Qucy’s weight. These were replaced with “Snowball Fight!” and “How, Exactly?” respectively in other regions.
- A few other online comics that are available to read on https://hakoboy.com were never released outside of Japan. This is likely not because of their material being perceived as offensive, but simply because their plots revolve around Japanese culture and the context might have been lost on international readers.[1]
- None of these comics' events are referenced anywhere else in the games, rendering most of them non-canonical; however, certain aspects primarily mentioned in the comics (for example, Qbby and Qucy's romantic relationship) have been confirmed to be canon through outside material, such as websites or character descriptions.
