How to think outside the box / Think outside the box!

Box Formations

Qbby may face danger from above, below, and both sides, too! You can try to shield our boxy hero with defensive techniques like Helmet, Shield, Helmet & Shield, Shielding Afro, and Shielding Beard.

Snakes

If Qbby needs to slither through tight spaces or get to hard-to-reach spots, you can try to use various Snake moves like Slippery Snake, Stretching Snake, Sneaky Snake, and Shielding Snake.

Combos

Qbby sometimes gets himself into challenging situations. You can get creative by combining techniques into moves like Double Bridge, Armored Bridge Crossing, Double Shield, Assisted Hook, and Assisted Snake.

When in doubt, check out the in-game techniques menu to read more about the different types of moves in the game. Maybe you can even combine certain techniques to create your own kind of move. Now that’s thinking outside the box!

Box of tricks / Helpful hints for solving boxy puzzles

Boxes everywhere!

Box Boy can create boxes out of thin air. The tricky part is figuring out where to put them! To set down boxes where they are, press down on the L control stick. You can press the Y Button to throw boxes one space away from you. Another option is to set down blocks or rows of blocks, then push them into place.

Target confirmed

You can press the Y Button from the stage selection screen to find the number of crowns and the number of box targets for each stage. Want to make sure you are on track to using the target number of boxes? While playing the stage, you can check in the Menu to see how many boxes you have used so far!

Hint, hint

Not sure what to do next? You can spend a medal to see one possible solution to the puzzle! To get a hint, press and hold the L control stick. Here’s another hint: the Medals you get for clearing stages can be exchanged for music, simple comics, and helpful items at the in-game store. You can use your Target Medals to get boxy accessories!

Disappearing boxes

The boxes you create may not last forever! Any boxes you have created and dropped into place will disappear when you try to make new boxes. Be careful you aren't standing on or next to any boxes protecting you from harm!
